CHAPTER ONE
Our Story
The concept of Friendly Dog Collars was born in the UK in 2007, thanks to Jonathon Saville's inspiring experience with his beloved Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Roxy.
Jon’s heartwarming story highlights the importance of not judging a dog by its appearance. Despite Roxy's intimidating looks, she never harmed anyone, yet strangers would often cross the street to avoid them. The turning point came when Jon's sister playfully dressed Roxy in a pink outfit, leading to a dramatic shift in how people perceived her.
This simple act of apparel transformed their public outings, igniting the idea for the first “FRIENDLY” green dog collar. As demand grew, our product line expanded to include collars that cater to various canine personalities and needs. Our signature traffic light system—green for friendly, orange for “NO DOGS,” and red for “CAUTION”—now includes collars for nervous dogs, service dogs, therapy dogs, and many more, all designed to foster safer and more enjoyable interactions.
CHAPTER two
Meet Jenny Parker
As the Australian distributor, I, Jenny Parker, am thrilled to be part of this meaningful mission. My background as a pet photographer, and my experience as a volunteer foster carer made me acutely aware of the challenges many dog owners face in public spaces. I learned firsthand the difficulties of navigating encounters with overly enthusiastic dog lovers or off-leash dogs approaching my anxious fosters.
Having grown up with friendly dogs, my transition into fostering opened my eyes to the reality that not all dogs share that temperament. When the opportunity arose to become the Australian distributor in 2015 for Friendly Dog Collars, I knew it was my calling. I recognized the urgent need for our products and the countless benefits they provide in preventing misunderstandings and fostering safe interactions.
CHAPTER three
A personal Journey
My own journey with the traffic light collar system was personified through my beloved Australian Bulldog, Malibu. From the day I took the website photos for Friendly Dog Collars, she was by my side, proudly showcasing her FRIENDLY outfit to reassure others of her gentle nature. Sadly, after undergoing two cruciate surgeries, she became protective and snappy around other dogs. Using the orange “NO DOGS” collar allowed me to manage her interactions and ensure she felt safe during her healing process.
Though I recently had to say goodbye to my soul dog, I’m forever grateful for the joy and security Friendly Dog Collars provided us during our time together in public.
