I have an assistance dog but went with a caution lead instead. Why? Glad you asked. We go everywhere together and these are often places that you normally don’t find dogs there. The bright red lead with “Caution” written on it draws people’s attention to the dog (for their safety and that of the dog). Also when we’re sitting down I can place the red lead around her as a kind of safety barrier to prevent people coming too close or way too close that they may step on her. The red lead is also found in the GAP ‘Traffic Light System’ where green is friendly to others and red is aggressive to others. I do not want my dog to be distracted and engaging with other people or dogs. So I use the red caution lead as a hint to politely ask other people and dogs to keep their distance.
